Virtual Community Discussion

Finding meaningful employment in a new country can be both exciting and challenging. Many immigrants experience stress related to credential recognition, underemployment, financial pressure, and rebuilding a professional identity. This virtual discussion explores how employment challenges can affect mental health and offers practical tools for navigating these experiences.

Guided by a mental health professional or experienced facilitator (to be announced), this interactive workshop will:

  • Explore the connection between work, identity, and well-being for newcomers and immigrants

  • Discuss common challenges such as underemployment, workplace discrimination, and job search stress

  • Reflect on personal work journeys and the strengths people bring from their past professional experiences

  • Introduce practical strategies for coping with job search stress, rejection, and uncertainty

  • Highlight community resources including newcomer employment supports, skills programs, and mental health services

Participants will have opportunities to reflect on their own experiences and share insights in a supportive learning environment.

This session is designed for immigrants and newcomers navigating employment challenges, including those seeking their first job in Canada, working in roles below their qualifications, or adjusting to a new professional landscape.

The discussion will take place in a respectful, inclusive space. Participants are welcome to engage at their comfort level and will leave with practical coping strategies and information about community resources and KAPWB supports.
