In-Person Community Discussion at Heartwood House
Moving to a new country can bring hope and opportunity, but it can also involve loss, uncertainty, and emotional stress. This community discussion offers a welcoming space for immigrants, refugees, and community members to explore the mental health aspects of adapting to life in a new country.
Guided by a mental health professional or experienced facilitator (to be announced), this interactive session will:
-
Explore common emotional experiences in the immigration journey, including grief, stress, and identity changes
-
Introduce simple mental health concepts to help distinguish between normal adjustment stress and when additional support may be helpful
-
Provide space for participants to reflect on their own migration experiences and sources of resilience
-
Share practical coping strategies such as grounding techniques, breathing exercises, and building supportive networks
-
Highlight local community resources and supports available for newcomers and families
This session is designed for immigrants, refugees, caregivers, and community members interested in supporting newcomer well-being.
The discussion will take place in a respectful, inclusive space at Heartwood House, where participants are welcome to share at their comfort level. Attendees will leave with practical coping tools, shared language for mental health conversations, and information about KAPWB programs and community supports.
