Virtual Community Discussion
Caring for someone living with depression or dementia can be both meaningful and overwhelming. This virtual discussion offers caregivers a supportive space to better understand these conditions while also recognizing the emotional toll that caregiving can take.
Guided by a mental health professional or experienced facilitator (to be announced), this interactive session will:
-
Introduce key signs of depression and dementia in clear, accessible language
-
Explore how stigma and misunderstanding can affect individuals living with these conditions and the families supporting them
-
Discuss the emotional pressures caregivers often experience, including guilt, isolation, and unrealistic expectations
-
Share practical coping strategies such as setting boundaries, taking restorative breaks, and seeking peer support
-
Highlight community resources and supports available for caregivers
This session is designed for family caregivers, partners, and community members supporting someone living with depression, dementia, or related challenges.
The discussion will take place in a respectful and supportive learning environment. Participants may engage at their comfort level and will leave with practical insight, coping strategies, and information about KAPWB caregiver supports and future programs.
