Virtual Community Discussion
Supporting someone who is living with depression can be deeply meaningful—but it can also be emotionally demanding. This virtual discussion provides caregivers, family members, and supporters with practical tools to offer compassionate support while also protecting their own well-being.
Guided by a mental health professional or experienced facilitator (to be announced), this interactive workshop will:
-
Explore common responses that can unintentionally make conversations about depression more difficult
-
Introduce simple communication skills such as active listening, validation, and supportive questioning
-
Discuss how to have safer conversations when someone expresses hopelessness or suicidal thoughts
-
Highlight the importance of healthy boundaries and recognizing signs of caregiver burnout
-
Help participants reflect on practical ways to support a loved one while maintaining their own mental and emotional balance
Participants will also have opportunities to reflect on real-life situations and begin outlining a simple, personal support approach they can use at home.
This session is designed for family members, partners, caregivers, friends, and colleagues who are supporting someone experiencing depression or emotional distress.
The discussion will be held in a respectful, supportive learning environment. Participants may engage at their comfort level and will leave with practical conversation tools and information about KAPWB programs and support resources.
