Virtual Community Discussion

When a child becomes distant or breaks contact with a parent, the experience can bring deep grief, confusion, and isolation. This virtual discussion offers a supportive space for parents and caregivers who feel alienated from a child—whether the child is young, a teenager, or an adult.

Guided by a mental health professional or experienced facilitator (to be announced), this session focuses on understanding the emotional impact of estrangement and exploring practical ways to care for oneself while keeping the possibility of healthy reconnection open.

During this interactive workshop, participants will:

  • Reflect on the emotional experiences many parents face when a child pulls away

  • Discuss common reactions that can unintentionally make reconnection more difficult

  • Learn strategies for coping with grief, anger, and uncertainty in healthier ways

  • Explore gentle, respectful approaches to communication that prioritize the child’s boundaries and well-being

  • Identify personal sources of support and small steps that can help sustain hope and resilience

This session is designed for parents, caregivers, and supporters navigating estrangement or distance in a parent–child relationship.

The discussion will take place in a confidential, respectful, and non-judgmental space. Participants may engage at their comfort level and will leave with practical coping strategies and information about KAPWB programs and supportive resources.
