Virtual Community Discussion

This virtual discussion offers caregivers and community members a compassionate introduction to understanding and supporting children who feel disconnected or alienated from a parent. Family conflict, separation, or long periods of distance can leave children feeling confused, anxious, or caught between loyalties. This session focuses on how adults can respond in ways that center the child’s emotional safety and wellbeing.

Guided by a mental health professional (to be announced), this interactive workshop will:

  • Explore how children of different ages experience family conflict and separation

  • Help participants recognize common emotional and behavioral responses children may show

  • Introduce child-centered, trauma-informed ways to respond when children express anger, fear, or rejection toward a parent

  • Share simple language and strategies adults can use to support children without placing them in the middle

  • Offer practical tools for caregivers to maintain stability, emotional safety, and healthy communication

This session is designed for parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, and helpers who want to better understand the emotional world of children navigating difficult family dynamics.

The discussion will be held in a respectful, non-judgmental space. Participants are welcome to share at their comfort level and will leave with practical insight, supportive language, and information about KAPWB programs and resources for families and caregivers.
